Hong Kong Railway Museum
Who says romance is dead?
It was a surprise to find out the Hong Kong even had a railway museum, and it was free, so it was perhaps not a surprise to find out that its rather small. Housed in a disused station building, with a brief exhibition inside on the history of railways in Hong Kong, it also has a small outside section, in which can be found the first diesel locomotive to run in Hong Kong and a narrow gauge steam locomotive that ran on a briefly operated branch line before it was closed and the locomotive shipped off to spend the rest of its (long) working life at a sugar plantation in the tropics.

When the station became redundant, it became a museum.
It can be found a short, signposted walk from Tai Wo Station on the East Line of the MTR.

The active railway next to the museum carries the MTR East line and the through trains to China.

The weirdest part of the visit, had to be seeing a couple getting their wedding photos taken here, and this notice which indicates this was not an unusual occurrence. I think there is very little chance I would be able to persuade any future wife of mine that the way to get the best and most romantic wedding photos possible is to pose on track ballast….
